Around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, 31-year-old Mark Anthony Plata , an off-duty detention corporal with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested by deputies near the corner of Claiborne and Bowdre on the far west Side.
The Sheriff’s office announced that Plata has been charged with Assault Bodily Injury - Family/Household, a Class A misdemeanor. Plata has been employed with the sheriff’s office since June of 2020. Following the arrest, Plata was placed on adminitrative leave, and issued a Notice of Proposed Dismissal.
"Domestic violence in any setting should never be tolerated, but especially in law enforcement,” said Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. “This young man accepted this job knowing we have a high standard, so the consequences of his actions should not come as a surprise to him." A separate, but concurrent, investigation is being handled by Bexar County Sheriff’s Office internal affairs, while the criminal case is being handled by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Integrity Unit.
