BHP Xplor launched in 2021 with a phone call. A phone call between VP Sonia Scarselli and now Chief Technical Officer Johan van Jaarsveld. That was in February 2021. In August 2022, the programme started. The aim was always to unlock the potential in exploration companies worldwide. The programme provides US$500,000 grants and comprehensive support to junior mining companies. Over two and a half years, two cohorts have been completed, with 13 members selected from 700 applications.

"It has created an ecosystem that I don't think necessarily exists more widely in this industry."SupportThe MDs, CEOs and managers that are part of each Xplor cohort stay in touch and share the challenges, wins and stories that others outside of the industry don't really understand. It's a welcome sense of camaraderie, cohorts represented at the briefings said, for a role that can otherwise be quite lonely.
