Biden on Sunday evening addressed the nation for a third time since Trump survived an assassination attempt.
Washington — President Biden addressed the nation Sunday night from the Oval Office, saying the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump requires Americans 'to take a step back' to determine 'how we go forward from here.' 'We can't allow this violence to be normalized,' Mr. Biden said. 'The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It's time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that.
Biden said, adding that he had ordered an independent review of the security and events at the Pennsylvania rally to determine what went wrong. A Secret Service sniper killed the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, after he fired a series of shots within minutes of Trump taking the stage. Trump said a bullet pierced part of his right ear. Bullets that missed Trump killed one bystander and critically injured two others.
