President Biden congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday for making history as the first woman to be elected as president of Mexico.

Mr. Biden also lauded Mexico for holding a “successful democratic electoral process” that involved more than 20,000 positions.Mexico is a major trading partner, and the unchecked flood of migrants across the southern border is dogging Mr. Biden as he runs for reelection against former President Donald Trump, who’s made border security a central issue.
Mr. Biden also faced mixed results in pressing departing Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to crack down on cartels who trafficked deadly fentanyl into the U.S.
