Mediators are 'hopeful' of a temporary truce in the ongoing Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas, after a proposal was tweaked to satisfy both parties.

US President Joe Biden set to speak with Qatar and Egypt leaders in push for Gaza ceasefire, as Hamas urged to accept deal

There are mixed reports of what the latest agreement will be, however, the first release of hostages - held since at least October 7 - is set to be 20 to 33 people over several weeks. "In this moment the only thing standing between the people of Gaza and a ceasefire is Hamas," he said, adding he is"hopeful that they will make the right decision".

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron also described it as"very generous", adding pressure will be mounting on Hamas to respond favourably to the deal. The White House announced on Monday that US President Joe Biden will speak to the leaders of Qatar and Egypt in a bid to push the Gaza proposal. One Israeli source close to the discussions said the only way to stop an invasion into Rafah, where more than one million of Palestinians are seeking shelter, is a deal.
