Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to be named the next Man Utd manager if Ineos opt to dismiss Erik ten Hag at the end of this season.
Manchester United might not have enjoyed the domestic dominance of Bayern Munich over the previous 11 years, but the two clubs have one thing in common: they dominate the discourse around football in England and Germany respectively.
In Manchester, Erik ten Hag has been stung by the criticism of late, biting back at pundits after the 1-1 draw with Burnley when he reminded some former players that they went through a rebuilding phase during the Sir Alex Ferguson era as well. Tuchel could yet deliver the perfect response to his own snipers by guiding Bayern to the Champions League final and Ten Hag will hope the FA Cup final offers him some respite.
"I felt with Manchester United there was always a lot of noise, a lot of pundits are ex-players from Manchester United, you have this legacy from Sir Alex Ferguson which creates a lot of pressure, a lot of expectation around Manchester United," said Tuchel. Ten Hag would almost certainly agree with that and it is an answer that suggests Tuchel knows exactly what it takes to manage United. He has experienced similar in Munich and having managed Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea as well, his CV contains plenty of elite clubs with significant noise around them.
