It is not the first time mass housing has been planned at the former RAF base
Fresh plans have been put forward to build on a former RAF airbase in North Lincolnshire. If approved, the project will be phased as full permission has been sought for 130 homes on the southern part, and outline for 220 homes and the commercial building on the rest.
There will be a mixture of terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, but all will have front and back gardens. An application document indicates 171 homes are set to have three bedrooms. There will be 52 four beds, 104 two beds and 34 five beds. Spitfire squadrons stayed for a short time during the Battle of Britain and it was also used by the US Air Force.
