'For the last four years, we've been the villain. It's as if we've been doing it wrong'
Gypsy billionaire Alfie Best has said it's a 'big win for the community' for new affordable homes in Preston, despite the council ordering his business to restore parts of an embankment that had been excavated.
Mr Best spoke to LancsLive in the wake of the decision on the battle with the council. He said: "For the last four years, we've been the villain. It's as if we've been doing it wrong, as if we've been doing it wrong and all of a sudden it now transpires, after all that.
Mr Best says that the permission could potentially bring about 15 new homes and four new permanent jobs, creating affordable housing for considerably less than a like-for-like bungalow. "When things like this happen, it isn't a win for Wyldecrest, it's a win for justice. The entrepreneur says that the permission has proved that the development has been proven to be "completely legal and above board," despite Wyldecrest having to fight it for the last four years.
"The Enforcement Notice alleged a breach of planning control of operational development by changing the use of the land. The works were there laying of bases and creation of plots for new luxury mobile homes on the south embankment. Councillor James Flannery, Cabinet Member for Planning, Business Support and Economic Development said: "This is a heavily nuanced case which has spanned a number of years. The element of the complex case which was granted after appeal to the Planning Inspector was originally a certificate of lawful application which was submitted in respect of the southern embankment, which was refused in 2021.
