An estimated 944,000 people in the UK are living with dementia and that figure is set to rise
The health of your heart right now could prove crucial in predicting the risk of dementia in later life, according to a recent study.
An estimated 944,000 individuals in the UK are living with dementia, with over half of all adults knowing someone afflicted by the disease. The recent UCL research involved a review of 27 studies and amassed data from dementia patients across the globe, spanning from 1947 to 2015. Dr Naaheed Mukadam from the UCL Division of Psychiatry said: "Cardiovascular risk factors may have contributed more to dementia risk over time, so these deserve more targeted action for future dementia prevention efforts.
Nonetheless, they noted the management of this condition has improved over time. Alzheimer's Research UK has projected the current global figure of 50 million people living with dementia could soar to 152 million by 2050.
