A new study from Concordia University suggests that speaking two languages could help delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease by up to five years compared to people who only speak one language. Researchers found that bilingual individuals with Alzheimer's disease had a noticeably larger hippocampus, the brain region responsible for learning and memory, than monolinguals of the same age, education, and cognitive function. This suggests that bilingualism may offer some form of brain maintenance against age-related decline.
