The late-night talk show host mused Friday night about the need to bring back “traditional dads,” or “trad dads,” as he called them—fathers who “knows your parent, not your friend.”
After acknowledging that he does not have any children himself, Maher argued that the reason so many teens and young adults are in mental health crisis is because of a lack of discipline from their parents. The solution, Maher posited, is to bring back the “trad dad,”—not the “1950s psychopath who never said he loved you and hit you with a belt,” he clarified, but the dad “who believes ‘because I said so’ is a perfectly legitimate answer to any question a child may have.”
