terrorizes and eradicates society. Anyone who sees the horrifying force is immediately led to their demise. However, some people don’t die — rather, they regard the deadly creatures as angels and force others to look at them in order to “save” their souls.
Sebastián is part of this group, dubbed Seers. While Anna is suspected to be alive at first, it’s later revealed that she is a figment of Sebastián’s imagination and died months earlier, after she was forced to look at the monster by a priest named Padre Esteban. Sebastián is revealed to be a Seer after he convinced a group of survivors living in an abandoned bus station that he had access to a generator. The group lets him in, but in the middle of the night, he hijacks a bus they’re all sleeping in and drives it outside, making them look at the lethal entities. Anna appears, praising Sebastián for “saving” those people and exclaiming that he can soon join her in heaven.He attempts to infiltrate a second group, which includes an English woman, Claire, and a German girl about Anna’s age, Sofia. They reveal that they’re headed to a shelter in Montjuïc Castle, where Sofia’s mother is believed to be. Sebastián sees this as an opportunity to “save” more souls and soon reunite with Anna and his wife, who was killed when Barcelona was first invaded by the monsters. But along their journey to the castle, Sebastián begins to doubt his role as a Seer and realizes the error of his ways — the unseen creatures are evil, not deities. When he, Claire, and Sofia reach the cable cars that will carry them to the safety of the castle, Sebastián sacrifices himself in a fight against Padre Esteban, to buy Claire and Sofia more time to cross. While Sebastián dies in the fight, Claire and Sofia make it to the castle and Sofia is reunited with her mother.Bird Box Barcelona that Seers are immune to the unseen monsters. Their DNA has been altered by some level of emotional trauma — so in Sebastián’s case, grief, from watching his wife die at the onset of the invasion, and subsequently, his daughter at the hands of Padre Esteban. So rather than dying at the sight of the creatures, they become fixated and believe them to be otherworldly angels.In the final moments of the film, it’s revealed that doctors are working on finding a cure. After Claire and Sofia make it to the shelter at Montjuïc Castle, a doctor tells Claire that a cure can be found in the blood of Seers — and one is currently trapped in the safe space for testing purposes.
