Bird flu found in nine otters and foxes since 2021

Nine otters and foxes have contracted bird flu since 2021, according to the Animal and Plant Health Agency

In 2023, a fox in Powys, Wales, was infected while one person contracted the virus in January 2022 - an extremely rare case.

She added that while bird flu was detected in a"small number of mammals in the UK" there were no"signals of increased risk to the general public". However, he said:"We need to understand the consequence of this infection. Does it make the virus change by jumping its host? We're aware those events can sometimes lead to that."
