A new study reveals the prevalence of superstitions in Britain, with millions believing in lucky bird droppings and other age-old beliefs.
New research reveals that a significant portion of the nation holds superstitious beliefs. An estimated 15.25 million people believe that bird droppings on their head signify good luck, according to a study by Paddy Power Bingo. The study explored various superstitions regarding luck, revealing that 22% of respondents still associate bird poo with good fortune. Other common superstitions include breaking a mirror (34%), walking under ladders (24%), and opening an umbrella indoors (22%).
The survey also delved into how people apply these superstitions in everyday life, with 14% admitting to considering them when making significant purchases like buying a house or a car. Boarding a plane (17%), attending job interviews (15%), going on first dates (14%), and even watching sports (12%) were also influenced by superstitions for many. A notable 20% confessed to applying their personal superstitions to every aspect of their lives. A spokesperson for Paddy Power Bingo commented: 'With over 15 million people seemingly hoping for bird droppings on their way to work, we still think there are far better ways to start a day.
