The National Lottery has allowed North Somerset Council to fast-track a £10m funding application.
Plans to restore a historic pier face a funding shortfall of £11.7m, the council planning the work has said.
Following the meeting, and in a post on Facebook, councillor Ciarán Cronnelly, who represents Weston-super-Mare Winterstoke, said that the pier could be open "by spring 2026", if the funding gap can be secured this Autumn.Birnbeck Pier was shut in 1994 and has been deteriorating for years So far £940,000 has been secured from Historic England, £3.44m from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, and £4.47m from the government's
