Blackburn stopped Leeds returning to the top of the Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Ewood Park.
Defeat brought an end to Leeds' three-match winning streak and leaves them trailing leaders Sheffield United by three points. And there was similar clarity with Cantwell’s execution as the midfielder fired low into the side netting to Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier’s right. With the match winding towards a nervy conclusion, Leeds striker Patrick Bamford had three chances to equalise as Rovers clung on.
This is the first Championship match on a Saturday to kick off at 1.30pm since February 2020, a 1-1 draw between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday. Leeds also won their last Championship game kicking off at 1.30, beating Swansea in July 2020 under Marcelo Bielsa.
