England's healthcare watchdog has issued a warning to Blackburn's primary substance addiction help centre, stating that it must improve quickly. The centre's staff were found to have not received essential medicine training for countering heroin overdoses. The service, previously provided by CGL, is run by The Calico Group from St John's Court in Blackburn. The Care Quality Commission inspectors rated the service as 'requires improvement' and issued a list of necessary changes. The report revealed that only 6% of staff had completed training to administer naloxone, an antidote medication for opioid overdoses. Additionally, just 36% of staff had completed learning disability and autism training, which is compulsory under the Health and Care Act 2022. The service also had issues with incomplete risk assessments and had experienced 13 serious incidents, including 12 deaths, in the past year.
