Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council will receive £1.8million in government grants to tackle homelessness. The council will use the money to set up a new Homelessness Prevention Forum and provide accommodation for those without a settled roof over their heads.
Blackburn with Darwen borough currently has seven rough sleepers on its streets the council’s leader has revealed.
Cllr Riley was questioned on the number of people sleeping rough in Blackburn with Darwen by 4BwD opposition group leader Cllr Mustafa Desai. The snapshot does not include everyone in a local authority with a history of sleeping rough. Nor does it include everyone sleeping rough across local authorities from the October to November period.
This includes a Homelessness Prevention Grant of £794,388 to tackle, reduce and prevent homelessness and to provide temporary accommodation where required for families who become homeless, for example through eviction or fleeing domestic violence. The borough will also benefit from a slice of the £2m allocated to The Changing Futures Lancashire programme which long-term support for adults experiencing multiple disadvantage, including combinations of homelessness, substance misuse, mental health, domestic abuse and criminal history.
