The team announced a two-year contract extension with a $1.2 million cap hit for Reichel on Tuesday.
Lukas Reichel could have gotten more on a contract extension if he played to expectations this season, but he could have gotten less if the had wanted, given how he played this season. Instead, Reichel and the Blackhawks found middle ground. Advertisement From Reichel’s perspective, the contract gives him a few years of financial security and a two-year opportunity to prove he’s worth even more on his next deal.
“Even if last game you had a bad game or whatever, focusing on the next game and not about the last game or last practice. It’s not easy, but I think I’m young and I have to learn that. I feel like everyone struggles, even the best player. Mentally, it wasn’t easy, but I think when I look in the future, when I’m looking back at the stretch of games and I’m not playing good, I know what to do and get back on track.
