Highbury House Care Home, run by DM Care Limited, and the home's manager Rebecca Tucker 'failed to protect' Mary Fallon from 'avoidable harm', the Care Quality Commission said
A Blackpool care home has been hit with a £138,000 legal bill and their manager ordered to pay more than £7,000 after an elderly resident died from 'multi-organ failure' as a result of pressure sore infections.
In November 2018, Mary was treated by district nurses for pressure ulcer wounds on her feet and, as a result, a safeguarding alert was raised. Further twice weekly district nurse visits continued until Mary was discharged from their care om April 15, 2019.The Care Quality Commission said from April 23, there were a further 44 entries in Mary’s care plan showing her pressure sores had returned.
Pressure ulcers and deep tissue injuries were found on Mary’s heels, elbows, hip, buttock, natal cleft and toes. The CQC said Mary sadly died on July 14, 2019, and the primary cause of death was multi-organ failure caused by septicaemia, pressure sores and generalised atherosclerosis. DM Care Limited was fined £120,000 in court yesterday and also ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge and £18,000 costs to the Care Quality Commission , which brought the prosecution. Tucker was also ordered to pay £2,000 and £5,000 costs and a victim surcharge of £170.
