Residents of Blackpool have had mixed reactions to plans for a new trendy storage unit street food destination which hopes to open in South Shore.
Walking the streets of South Shore, Matt Hart said he was in two minds about the development. He told LancsLive that while he's glad something is being done with the site, he suggested something for kids might have been more useful for the area. Mark Yates of Brooks Collectables said he's glad to see something food related at the South Shore end of the town, adding that the vibe of the place seems like Mackie Mayors, a food hall in Manchester's Northern Quarter. Yet he's not sure if it's the right thing for Blackpool.
A council report says: “The application proposes a hot food and drink development on safeguarded open space in an area where there is an identified shortfall of open space and no compensatory measures or mitigation is proposed. The proposal would exacerbate an existing over-concentration of hot food takeaway uses in an area with significant health inequalities with high levels of childhood obesity.
