The bird has been safely returned to the Fylde coast zoo
A missing Blackpool Zoo pelican has finally been found some three weeks after it went missing. The escaped bird has been returned to keepers after evading capture several times.
However, the adventures pelican was finally rescued after it was spotted at Hay-a-Park Gravel Pits waters all the way over in Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. That's almost 80 miles away from Blackpool Zoo. Concerned pelican hunters and people following the search in the hope the bird would be found, were quick to express their relief and gratitude under the zoo's Facebook announcement.
In announcing the good news, the zoo said: "It was extremely important for us to rescue this pelican and return it to its flock as they are very social birds and, as a non-native species, it needed to be back with its own kind. Pelicans are beautiful, docile creatures, and there was never any threat to the public.
