The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly dealt veteran infielder/designated hitter Justin Turner to the Seattle Mariners on Monday, one day ahead of the trade deadline.
Veteran infielder/designated Justin Turner became the latest player to have his ticket out of Toronto punched. The Seattle Mariners have acquired Turner, 39, from the Blue Jays for a prospect according to multiple reports Monday.Outfielder R.J. Schreck reportedly heads to Toronto in the deal. The 24-year-old had recently been promoted to Double-A.Turner becomes the second player traded from Toronto to Seattle in a four-day span.
Toronto signed Turner to a one-year, $13 million contract in January, hoping to capitalize on his steady success over a 16-year career. Instead, the Blue Jays ended the week 49-56 — last in the five-team American League East and fading from the Wild Card picture as well.Turner is batting .254 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 89 games this season.
