Fire crews raced to Lauriston Farm Road in the north of the city after the alarm was raised at around 10.45am on Saturday.
Pictures shared with Edinburgh Live showed firefighters battling the inferno as the silver vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames.
The incident happened near the Toby Carvery on the street. One eyewitness, who was eating her breakfast at the restaurant when the drama unfolded, said: “My son glanced out of the window and said ‘a car is on fire.’ The fire brigade and police turned up very quickly and soon put the fire out.” A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted to a car that was alight at around 10.46am near the Toby Carvery on Lauriston Farm Road.
