Firefighters had already been called to the spot earlier today to save a young swimmer in a separate incident. Officials at Salford Fire Team said earlier this afternoon: "Crews have been at Salford Quays today, engaging with the public around staying safe in warmer weather. "While speaking to the public, crews noticed a young person in difficulty in the water and quickly worked to rescue them using a throwline.
"We want to remind people to never be tempted to cool off by swimming in open water, or encourage your mates to jump into reservoirs, rivers, canals or ponds ."Ministers held an emergency Cobra meeting on Saturday after meteorologists warned of record high temperatures.
