Police have confirmed that a body discovered in the Solway Firth on Tuesday night has been formally identified as Shona Campbell who had been on a family holiday in Dumfries and Galloway when she got into trouble in quicksand while walking her dog.
A body found on the shores of the Solway Firth has been confirmed as 74-year-old Shona Campbell who got stuck in quicksand.
Coastguard teams found a body in the quicksand on Tuesday evening and it has now been formally identified as that of the 74-year-old, who was visiting the area with family. Ms Campbell had been staying with her family at West Moss-side Caravan Park in Cummertrees and had gone for a walk with her dog on Monday evening when she got stuck around 5pm – little more than an hour before high tide.
“It was a very difficult recovery but I have to take my hat off to everybody involved - Nith Rescue, mountain rescue, the police, the fire brigade.
