In a press conference, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Eduardo De Vega said Ranara’s repatriation will be shouldered by her employer after negotiations conducted by the Philippine embassy.Ranara was a 35-year-old Filipino domestic helper in Kuwait who was raped before being burned by the son of her employer, according to reports from local media. Her charred body was found in a desert.
De Vega said DFA is already aware that the suspect has been arrested and waiting for words from the Kuwaiti authorities for other actions to be taken. “Our embassies and consulates are not the ones who perform the police work, who perform the work of prosecuting or investigating cases involving Filipinos. We have to work with local authorities,” he added.
