Boeing's CEO is leaving the company at the end of the year amid a shakeup at the top of the airplane-maker that is struggling with a crisis in public faith.

The Federal Aviation Administration has also ramped up its oversight of the company after the Alaska Airlines incident, including limiting the production of new 737s after grounding similar models for that is expected to have ripple effects across the aviation industry that may lead to fewer flights being available for travelers that have already been battered by repeated cancellations and delays as the airline industry restarted from its COVID-induced slumber four years ago.

“What it comes down to is safety and regaining the public trust,” said Dan Bubb, associate professor in at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Honors College, and former airline pilot. “Boeing has a lot of work to do, and it's not going to happen just by changing leadership. You have to change the culture.”
