Boil water advisory issued in Northwest D.C. following water main break
Loss of pressure can allow water from outside the pipe to flow in and can cause contamination. Officials issued a boil water advisory as a precaution, saying they do not know for certain that contamination has occurred. Customers are urged to discard any drinks or ice made after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Before boiling, cold water should be run until any discoloration is gone and should be run for two minutes if there is a known lead contamination before boiling, officials said.
