Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Mayor Chavit Singson believes that his fellow Ilocano, presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will become the first president to be elected by a majority of voters.Singson based his prediction on the recent presidential surveys’ results showing that Marcos Jr. is preferred by at least 50 percent of the respondents.
“Sabi ko nga kanina—magiging majority president, ngayon lang. Ever since wala tayong majority president, puro – like for example si President Duterte malakas pero 16 million lang nakuha niya at 25 million ‘yung hindi bumoto. Pero this one, more than 50 percent na. Lahat naman ng survey ganun eh ,” Singson told reporters in an ambush interview during the convention of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines in Pasay City.
Singson, the LMP president, also claimed that 80 percent of LMP’s member-mayors support the tandem of Marcos Jr. and his running mate, vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio. He said the group has 1,480 members. The Ilocos Sur town mayor, who has been joining Marcos Jr. in many of his campaign activities, said he does not have his own choice for president.Singson said it’s important for a presidential candidate to earn the backing of the mayors “because all politicians depend on their fellow politicians”.
