Army bomb disposal specialists were called to a Leeds street after an object thrown into a Leeds house caused a fire. Homes were evacuated and a large police cordon was set up after an item was thrown through a window in Colton Road, Armley, in the early hours of Saturday.
Police were called just before 2am to the incident. Army specialists were called to examine the object and make it safe. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 1.57am today, police received a report of an item having been thrown through the window of a house in Colton Road, Armley.Read more:Two Leeds men jailed for 34 years after shooting at Pudsey home "It caused a small amount of fire damage but was quickly extinguished without the fire service attending. The incident is being treated as arson." The spokesman added: "Concerns were raised about the item used and a large cordon has been put in place as a precaution for public safety while Army specialists attend to examine it." Homes were evacuated and officers worked with the local authority to support residents while the incident was brought to a safe conclusion. Army specialists examined the object, made it safe and removed it. The cordon and evacuation have since been lifted.
