Part of Nottingham that had been closed off while controlled explosions were carried out on suspicious packages has now been declared safe and reopened. Streets in Lenton were shut as the bomb squad dealt with two suspicious objects that were found on Allington Avenue and on nearby Maxwell Court on Friday, June 28.
on Friday afternoon. However, by around 5am on Saturday, June 29 both the packages had been assessed as safe after a controlled explosion, with police explaining neither had posed any real risk. As a result the large cordon which had encompassed swathes of the neighbourhood had now been lifted, and emergency service responders had all left the scene as of 7am. Locals and students living in the evacuation zone have returned steadily to their homes on Saturday, after a night staying either with friends and family or in temporary accommodation.As part of their investigation into the incident, police have since detained a man under the Mental Health Act.
