Fans utterly love him and cannot comprehend the reason why he is going back to Celtic
The incredible ovation Kieran Tierney received during his Arsenal SOS left heartbroken punters with "goosebumps".
Gunners diehards are down in the dumps after watching their team crash out on penalties to Manchester United in their third round FA Cup clash. Tierney was called upon for the final minutes of extra time and the home punters went crazy for him as he entered the pitch. The stunning reception was followed by a reminder of Tierney's brilliance – a teasing left-footed cross quickly reminded Arsenal fans, and an increasingly beleaguered Mikel Arteta – of the need for a clinical marksman.
Tierney wasn't het for the penalty shootout, however, he is now the hot name among Arsenal fans to start against Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham in a season-defining north London derby on Wednesday night. Record Sport understands the Scotland international is close to agreeing a sensational return to Celtic as a free agent when his contract ends in the summer.
And fans were left emotional after seeing Tierney make only his second appearance in the past 18 months for Arsenal. One wrote: "The memories of Tierney being applauded when he entered the game gave me goosebumps. If there was a penalty left, let him take one and say goodbye nicely." While another said: "Tierney was amazing there and if we had Haaland, that's a goal 100 per cent, but we don't need a striker according to Mikel and top Gooners."
