The executive chairman of fledgling budget carrier Bonza has departed three months after the airline’s first flight, as its financial backer prepares to launch new aviation projects overseas.

A 777 spokesperson said Howell had been selected to represent the firm on Bonza’s board for the start-up and pre-launch phase of the venture, and would hold a similar role at new projects within its portfolio.“Now that Bonza is operational, Rick’s focus has shifted to further early-stage aviation innovation projects within the 777 Partners portfolio,” the spokesperson said.

Before joining Bonza ahead of its launch in September 2021, Howell sat on the board of 777’s Canadian carrier Flair Airlines and was the chief executive officer of Air Black Box.777 Partners made headlines earlier this week after aircraft tracking database Planespotters revealed it had redirected a Boeing 737 Max-8 that was supposed to join Bonza’s purple fleet to Flair, which the private equity group partly owns.
