Several major UK retailers, also including WHSmith, Clinton Cards and Wickes, are set to shut shops this summer as high streets continue to grapple with closures
Marks and Spencer, WHSmith, Boots and Tesco are all closing stores this summer. While well-known chain Wetherspoon is planning to shut several pubs, though exact dates for those closures are still to be confirmed.
All the stores closing this summer Marks and Spencer A 33-year-old M&S store in Redhill, Surrey is set to close its doors on August 17 as part of the brand's major reshuffle of its UK sites. Despite being a favourite among shoppers, the branch located in The Belfry Shopping Centre couldn't escape the cut.
Tesco On August 15, Tesco will cease operations at its superstore in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The supermarket giant confirmed it would shut the doors of its branch in the Emery Gate Shopping Centre back in January, though only recently confirmed a closing date. Clinton Cards This month, the chain will say goodbye to two branches - one in Bexhill town centre on August 4 and another at the Castlepoint shopping centre in Bournemouth a week later on August 11.
So far, 581 Boots stores have already closed permanently, and by the end of this summer, another 69 will have followed suit. In June of the previous year, Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Boots UK, announced the closure of approximately 300 pharmacy outlets on home soil within a year.
