BREAKING: Former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker is set to be deported from the UK.
FormerThe ex-tennis star was being held in a British jail after being hand a two-and-a-half year sentence in April.relating to his bankruptcy in 2017 earlier this month.
He was found guilty by a jury after admitting to blowing a £38 million fortune amassed during his glittering tennis career.Earlier this month it was reported he had qualified for a fast-track scheme which aims to reduce the pressure foreign-born inmates put on UK prison. Becker has lived in the UK for more than a decade but qualified for automatic deportation because he does not have British citizenship and received a custodial sentence of more than 12 months.
He was expected to serve half of it behind bars but was released on Thursday morning and is due on a flight to Germany. He is thought to have been transferred to a lower security jail for foreign criminals awaiting deportation in May, Category C Huntercombe Prison near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire,This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon…Got a story?
