Four serving and former British intelligence sources say the WhatsApp messages on Boris Johnson’s old phone can still be accessed even though he claims to have forgotten his password Richard_AHolmes and janemerrick23 report
The sources, hailing from, and UK Government all say that the data is technically accessible and obtaining them without a passcode should be “no problem at all”.
The sources claims come after Boris Johnson claims to be unable to handover WhatsApp messages from his old mobile phone to the COVID inquiry because he has forgotten the password to it.could not “with 100% confidence” remember the code for the device he used up until May 2021 and he suspected the Apple iPhone would erase data if he inputted the wrong password too many times.
A serving UK intelligence analyst currently working with the Government said getting into the phone’s data would be “no problem at all, I assure you.” The source suggested that back doors to iPhones are “no myth” and they should be able to easily be opened by experts.: “The Police have kit to do so in criminal proceedings and the Secret Service technical group can unlock the phone using ‘back door’s software.
But a former official at the Government Security Group, the team in charge of protecting Government from leaks and hostile threats, said that there while technically accessing the phone should be straightforward, there would be legal and administrative barriers.
