Johnson, currently in New York for a UN summit, told Sky News: ‘I strongly disagree with this decision of the Supreme Court. I have the utmost respect for our judiciary, I don’t think this was the right decision I think that the prorogation has been used for centuries without this kind of challenge.

Lib Dems leader Jo Swinson echoed the calls for Johnson to step down, branding him ‘not fit to be Prime Minister’. Addressing reporters on his way to New York yesterday, Johnson insisted he would not resign if the court ruled against him.
