Boris Johnson is seeking an ‘immediate’ emergency UN Security Council meeting after Russian forces seized Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
, the prime minister said Vladimir Putin’s overnight takeover of the Zaporizhzhia plant was ‘gravely concerning’ and threatened the safety of all of Europe.must immediately cease its attack on the power station and allow unfettered access for emergency services to the plant.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, in the northeastern city on Energodar, was captured after a huge fire broke out when it came under heavy shelling. Ukraine has been calling for Nato allies to impose a no-fly zone above its skies, but world leaders have refused to heed to the demand due to fears it would lead to a wider war if Russian planes were shot down.
It came after the programme heard from former Ukrainian prime minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, who said other European countries ‘don’t understand’ the lengths Putin will go to.
