The Government is expected to continue funding Mr Johnson’s defence by his new legal team following his decision to drop the Cabinet Office lawyers.The Covid-19 Inquiry has said it has been told the Cabinet Office does not haveWhatsApp messages or notebooks, as the deadline to hand over the evidence was extended until Thursday afternoon.
WhatsApp messages sent and received by the former prime minister at the height of the Covid pandemic are with Mr Johnson’s lawyers and he has “no objection” to them being handed over, his office has said. It is not known whether these messages will be sent by the new deadline of Thursday, as the Cabinet Office is the official channel for all material relating to ministers from the pandemic.
