BORIS JOHNSON has unveiled a £1.8billion funding boost for the NHS and confirmed that “vital” upgrades will go ahead at 20 hospitals across the country.
A Government source said that, since taking office, the PM has worked with the Chancellor and Health Secretary to release the £1billion in NHS capital spending and £850million for hospital upgrades. It is believed the cash will be available “immediately”.It is reported that the total NHS maintenance backlog increased from £5.5billion to £6billion over the past year, amid fears the cash has been moved to support day-to-day spending.
