Authorities were bracing for the flooded McArthur River through Borroloola to peak at 18 metres, representing a one-in-100-year flood event.

After the local mobile network was restored, the BOM says it has been able to access flood level data from its gauge on the McArthur River.

It comes as authorities urged residents to take care around the flowing Todd River in Alice Springs following heavy falls in Central Australia. But the Bureau of Meteorology now believed the flood level peaked at 14.98 metres, at 3am Friday.The Bureau was unable to monitor flood levels across a number of gauges in the region due to outages with the Telstra network. Connectivity has since been restored.Downstream from Borroloola, there were concerns around the level of damage to a fishing village in the nearby King Ash Bay.

But wet weather continued in Central Australia, with Alice Springs Airport receiving 64mm of rain in the 24 hours to 9am Sunday.
