The latest targeted attack took place at Da Luciano’s in the early hours of Monday morning after a blaze was started inside the restaurant building.
The plush village of Bothwell, home to footballers and millionaire tycoons has been at the centre of a spate of firebombings in recent years.
Popular Italian Da Luciano’s was targeted in a second ‘firebombing’ last night. Emergency services were called to the already-damaged restaurant shortly after midnight.Restaurant San Vincenzo was also targeted repeatedly with incidents including a series of fires and vandal attacks. One incident saw a car driven through the window of the restaurant and set alight.
The eatery's previous owner Vincent Marini claimed he was a victim of an effort to drive him out of business. He eventually sold the troubled business at auction for £485,000 in September last year. The new owner Margo Wilson had two vehicles torched outside her mansion two miles away in Uddingston just weeks later.
The daughter of railway maintenance magnate David McLeish has also been targeted in Bothwell. A Range Rover was petrol-bombed outside Jennifer McLeish's £500,000 house which spread to the roof of her property, and to the neighbouring property owned by former Celtic star Leigh Griffiths, in 2020.The footballer sold his mansion for £575,000 after becoming unsettled by arson attacks on the house next door.
In January of this year the businesswoman had her name plastered in vile graffiti on walls outside a posh gym just miles from her home.Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter
