Hidden underground down a CBD laneway and soundtracked by a jukebox spinning ’80s tunes, this new Brisbane bar will stay open to 3am, seven days a week.
Is Peter Hollands opening a bar in an internet lounge?But right now he’s standing in the middle of Go Gaming Lounge on Elizabeth Street in Brisbane’s CBD dressed in shorts, Birkenstocks and socks, whispering about his plans for a 1980s-themed dive cocktail bar.
“It was inspired by Heartbreaker in Melbourne, which is also a great bar. And similar also was [the now closed] Frankie’s Pizza, in Sydney.“I think a really clear proposition and concept is maybe something Brisbane bars haven’t done quite as well [as Sydney or Melbourne]. You’ll find the entrance down the end of a laneway and a flight of stairs on Elizabeth Street opposite the Hilton Hotel; inside, there will be a long timber bar with counter seating on one wall, a line of booths on the other, and an elevated section along the back.
For drinks, expect a cocktail list largely fuelled by a collection of bourbon that will run at least 100 bottles deep.
