Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been talking about Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams, who is expected to join the Cherries
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola chose his words carefully when asked about Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, insisting 'right now he is not our player'. The South Coast club is understood to have made an offer for Adams which triggered the £20m relegation release clause contained within his contract, but the transfer has yet to be finalised with the 24-year-old set to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.
Spaniard Iraola confirmed that Bournemouth are closing in on a midfielder, although he did not say explicitly that Adams was the man. And when he was asked about Adams directly, he praised the USA international but would not go into detail about the transfer situation. "I think it's a player that right now he is not our player," said Iraola. "So we have to wait, I think that you know that the club is working towards signing someone there in the midfield, but we have to wait until everything is complete."He's a really good player. He has performed in the Champions League, national team experience. But I don't want to go too far because right now it's not our player.
Brighton were also interested in Adams, but Bournemouth appear to have won the race for his signature. Adams cost Leeds £20m when he joined from RB Leipzig and signed a five-year contract 13 months ago, and he made 24 Premier League appearances for the Whites last term. He suffered a serious hamstring injury in training in March which required surgery, and that cut short his season. He has yet to resume playing.
