Christopher Aherne, 47, was sentenced to 19 years and six months in prison for raping and sexually abusing a child. His crimes were uncovered after staff at a bowling alley reported witnessing him acting inappropriately with the child.
Staff at a bowling alley played a crucial role in uncovering the sickening crimes of a child rapist. Christopher Aherne, 47, was sentenced to 19 years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of rape and 13 counts of sexual activity with a child. Aherne's crimes were exposed in December 2021 when staff at the bowling alley reported witnessing him acting inappropriately with a child. Police were called but Aherne had already left.
However, officers were able to identify him and the child, who disclosed Aherne's abuse. Aherne was arrested at his garage, where officers recovered his mobile phone. Examination of the phone revealed inappropriate images and messages from Aherne to the victim, requesting they share photographs of themselves. In addition to the rape and sexual offences charges, Aherne also admitted supplying class A drugs, possession of indecent images, and five counts of making indecent images. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life. Detective Constable Christopher Tyrer commended the victim for their bravery and courage throughout the investigation. He expressed hope that the significant sentence would provide the victim with some closure and help them move forward. DC Tyrer also urged other victims of sexual offences to come forward and report them
