has always fused fashion and sport, by also working as a model alongside her training . She took this one step further for her fight against Julissa Alejandra Guzman on Saturday night in New Orleans, by working with Alexander McQueen to put a fashionable twist on her usual boxing kit.
“My dream has always been to bring fashion into sport and sport into fashion,” the Somali-born, London-based boxer and model toldahead of her fight. “I’m forever referred to as a fashion model by journalists in sport and a fighter by journalists in fashion. So I thought it was only fitting to make sure my two worlds collide in what will be a career-defining sporting moment, as I compete for another championship title.
Ali noted that she selected Alexander McQueen for this fight because, as a “proud Londoner”, she “couldn’t think of a more British brand than Alexander McQueen”. Though Ali lost the fight against Guzman, win or lose, her custom robe was a special way to acknowledge a huge moment in her career.
