A Nottinghamshire man is hoping to cement his Olympian grandfather's legacy by fundraising for charity and a boxing club. in memory of his grandad Mick Varley, who was an Olympic boxer.
He died in 2018 aged 73 after suffering from dementia and cancer, but his legacy has been continued by his grandson. Mr Varley, who set up Lady Bay Boxing Club after being inspired by his grandparent, is hoping the half marathon will help raise funds for charities tackling dementia, as well as making progress towards finding a permanent home for the boxing club."We are looking to eventually get our own premises and somewhere to call our own, which this could help with.
The club is run from Lady Bay Scout Hut on Mona Road, and has recently started providing classes in Bulwell. Mr Varley said club members would be joining him on his first half marathon.
