Huge ‘Boxing Day’ asteroid larger than Empire State building to skim past Earth at 27,000mph

AN enormous asteroid is expected to make a "close approach" to Earth on Boxing Day, Nasa has revealed.

The hefty space rock may be as big as 2,034 feet in diameter, and is expected to skim past Earth last this week.Asteroids regularly make close approaches to Earth, and Nasa creates alerts for each one of these objects.For instance, four 'All Saints' asteroidsNow Nasa has revealed that another asteroid is scheduled for an Earth fly-by on December 26 – Boxing Day.The asteroid is called 2000 CH59, named because it was first discovered in the year 2000.

On Earth, it'll look like a streak of light in the sky, because the rock is burning upIf a meteoroid doesn't vapourise completely and survives the trip through Earth's atmosphere, it can land on the Earth. Nasa categorises these asteroids as "near-Earth objects" making a "close approach", but that doesn't mean they're going to hit us.
