Boy, 11, stopped by police after driving BMW towing suspected stolen caravan on M1

The caravan was allegedly stolen from Thirsk, north Yorkshire

North Yorkshire police said they received a call at 3.30pm on 7 March that a caravan had been stolen from a caravan holiday site near Thirsk and it was being towed away by a black BMW X5.

We intercepted a BMW towing a suspected stolen caravan yesterday and were staggered to find an 11-year-old boy at the wheel.Around 45 minutes after the caravan had been reported stolen, police stopped the car on the M1 after it left the A1 at Hook Moor Interchange near Garforth, Leeds.A search of the vehicle revealed equipment typically used by suspects to carry out thefts and vehicle registration plates, police said.

He was questioned and was released on conditional police bail while further enquiries are carried out.
